Supplements to JFP

Supplements to JFP

We welcome proposals for supplements to THE JOURNAL OF FAMILY PRACTICE. However, supplements must meet the same high standards for editorial independence, peer review, and relevance to the practicing family physician as any original work in a regular issue of JFP.

  1. The supplement should address a topic that will be of interest to family physicians and contribute to improved care for their patients.
  2. The purpose of a JFP supplement is to inform family physicians, not to promote a sponsor's product. Where the sponsor has a specific product related to the clinical topic, extraordinary effort is required to assure that the editorial content is in no way influenced by the sponsor's commercial interest. The mere appearance of imbalance must be avoided at all costs.
  3. The supplement may report papers presented at an invited symposium, although it is expected that a family physician will be involved in organizing the meeting, and that some of the papers will be presented by family physicians.
  4. Single or multiple organizations may sponsor supplements. The typical supplement should be approximately 64 printed pages and include 8 to 12 papers.
  5. Manuscripts are subject to the normal editorial planning, peer review, and editorial oversight processes to promote balance, objectivity, and credibility.
  6. The editor-in-chief of JFP may name a supplement editor, although the editor-in-chief will have ultimate responsibility for decisions related to publishing the supplement.
  7. In order for a physician to be eligible for prescribed credit, the supplement must follow the guidelines required by the American Academy of Family Physicians through the usual mechanisms.
